Welcome To

Rory Clark

Pastor-Teacher

Good Morning!

Welcome to Barah Ministries…a Christian Church based in Mesa, AZ…my name is Pastor Rory Clark.  Barah Ministries teaches the Word of God from God’s perspective and not from the human perspective.  We want to know what God has to say to us though His Word, because we’re convinced that God knows exactly what He’s talking about.  And our God is the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

TODAY’S BIBLE LESSON

What is the Destiny of the Jews?

The apostle Paul, the human author of the letter to the Romans, which is the subject of our study…is a Jew.  Paul is also a Roman citizen…he is also a Pharisee…and he is also one of the most brilliant, and most diligent and most ambitious, and most passionate men who has ever lived.  According to Scripture, Paul is also the worst person who has ever lived.  Yet the Sovereign God of the Universe, the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, gave Paul a mighty task…Ephesians, Chapter 3, Verse 8 says…

EPHESIANS 3:8

To me (Paul), the very least of all saints, this grace was given (to me by God), to preach to the Gentiles the unfathomable riches of the Christ (the Messiah)…

Paul, a Jew, was selected by the Lord Jesus Christ both to be the apostle to the Gentiles, and also to be the replacement apostle for Judas Iscariot.  That is quite ironic, to say the least.

Paul wasn’t trusted by the saints…the believers in Christ…Acts, Chapter 9, Verses 10 to 14 say…

ACTS 9:10

Now there was a disciple at Damascus named Ananias; and the Lord called to him in a vision, “Ananias?” And Ananias said, “Here I am, Lord.”

ACTS 9:11

And the Lord said to Ananias, “Get up and go to a street called Straight Street, and inquire at the house of Judas for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying…”

ACTS 9:12

“…and he has seen in a vision a man named Ananias (that’s you) come in and lay his hands on him, so that he might regain his sight.”

ACTS 9:13

But Ananias answered, “Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much harm he did to Your saints at Jerusalem…”

ACTS 9:14

“…and here in Damascus he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call on Your name.”

Paul also wasn’t trusted by the Jews…because he turned from persecuting Christians to preach Christ.  Acts, Chapter 13, Verses 38 to 41…

ACTS 13:38

“Therefore let it be known to you, brethren (my Jewish brothers), that through Christ, forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you…”

ACTS 13:39

“…and through Christ everyone who believes (in Him) is freed from all things, from which you could not be freed through keeping the Law of Moses.”

ACTS 13:40

“Therefore take heed, so that the thing spoken of in the Prophets may not come upon you…”

ACTS 13:41

“‘Behold, you scoffers, and marvel, and perish; for I am accomplishing a work in your days, a work which you will never believe, though someone should describe it to you.’”

Paul is sending his Jewish brothers a simple message:  believe or be judged.  Some believed and wanted to hear more…some talked abusively against Paul and his message.

In Romans, Chapters 9 to 11…this brilliant man is about to explain to us the destiny of the Jews.  Who are the Jews?  According to Deuteronomy, Chapter 7, Verse 6, they are God’s chosen people…

DEUTERONOMY 7:6

For you (Jews) are a holy people to the Lord your God (set apart for a special use); the Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for His own (treasured) possession out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.

The Jews were entrusted with the Mosaic Law…Romans, Chapter 3, Verses 1 and 2…

ROMANS 3:1

Then what advantage has the Jew? Or what is the benefit of circumcision?

ROMANS 3:2

Great in every respect. First (and foremost) of all, that they were entrusted with the oracles of God (the very Word of God).

But the Jews turned on their Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ…the One who gave them the privileges…and distorted their appointment…as if there was some special merit in them that was not in others.  Of course, we know that not to be true…God simply had a plan for their lives that was different than the plan He had for others…Romans, Chapter 2, Verses 17 to 21…

ROMANS 2:17

But if you bear the name “Jew,” and you do, and if you rely upon the Mosaic Law (and you do) and boast in (brag about your relationship with) God (and you do)…

ROMANS 2:18

…and know His will (and you do) and approve the things that are essential (or excellent…and you do), and you keep on being instructed out of the Mosaic Law (and you are) …

ROMANS 2:19

…and are confident that you yourself are a guide to the blind (and you think so), and if you think you are a light to those who are in darkness (and you do)…

ROMANS 2:20

…and if you are a corrector of the foolish (and you are), if you are a teacher of the immature (and you are), having in the Mosaic Law the embodiment of knowledge and of the truth (and you do)…

ROMANS 2:21a

…you, therefore, who keep on seeking to teach (persuade) another, do you not teach yourself?

Paul wonders out loud if the teachers themselves will be disqualified.

We learned in our last lesson that the Lord Jesus Christ has not abandoned the Jews, even though most Jews today have rejected Him.  In this lesson, we’ll overview the three chapters that are next in our study of Paul’s letter to the Romans, to examine the path our verse-by-verse study will take.  Welcome to a place where you can learn about the destiny of the Jewish race.

TODAY’S BIBLE LESSON

What is the Destiny of the Jews?

To begin our study of the next section of Romans…we’ll simply read the three chapters together.  As you read and as you listen, notice the apostle Paul’s attitude in each of the chapters…in Chapter 9…notice his broken heart…in Chapter 10, notice his fervent prayer…in Chapter 11 notice his absolute confidence concerning what the Lord is able to do in the future for his people.

ROMANS, CHAPTER 9

ROMANS 9:1

I (Paul) am telling the truth in Christ, I am not lying, my conscience testifies with me in the Holy Spirit…

ROMANS 9:2

…that I keep on having great sorrow and unceasing grief in my heart.

ROMANS 9:3

For if I could wish that I myself were accursed, separated from the Christ for the sake of my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh…

ROMANS 9:4

…who are Israelites (the Jews), to whom belongs the adoption as sons…and to whom belongs the glory…and to whom belongs the covenants …and to whom belongs the giving of the Mosaic Law…and to whom belongs the temple service…and to whom belongs the promises…

ROMANS 9:5

…whose are the fathers…and from whom came the Christ…according to the flesh, who is the One over all, God eternally blessed forever. Amen.

ROMANS 9:6

But it is not as though the word of God has failed. For they are not all Israel who are descended from Israel…

ROMANS 9:7

…nor are they all children because they are Abraham’s descendants, but, “through Isaac your descendants will be named.”

ROMANS 9:8

That is, it is not the children of the flesh who are children of God, but the children of the promise are regarded as descendants.

ROMANS 9:9

For this is the word of promise: “At this time I will come, and Sarah shall have a son.”

ROMANS 9:10

And not only this, but there was Rebekah also, when she had conceived twins by one man, our father Isaac…

ROMANS 9:11

…for though the twins were not yet born and had not done anything good or bad, so that God’s purpose according to His choice would stand, not because of works but because of Him who calls…

ROMANS 9:12

…it was said to Rebekah, “The older will serve the younger.”

ROMANS 9:13

Just as it is written, “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.”

ROMANS 9:14

What shall we say then? There is no injustice with God, is there? May it never be!

ROMANS 9:15

For the Lord says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”

ROMANS 9:16

So then, it does not depend on the man who wills or the man who runs, but it depends on God who has mercy.

ROMANS 9:17

For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I raised you up, to demonstrate My power in you, and that My name might be proclaimed throughout the whole earth.”

ROMANS 9:18

So then the Lord has mercy on whom He desires, and He hardens whom He desires.

ROMANS 9:19

You will say to me then, “Why does the Lord still find fault? For who resists His will?”

ROMANS 9:20

On the contrary, who are you, O man, who answers back to God? The thing molded will not say to the molder, “Why did you make me like this,” will it?

ROMANS 9:21

Or does not the potter have a right over the clay, to make from the same lump one vessel for honorable use and another for common use?

ROMANS 9:22

What if God, although willing to demonstrate His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction?

ROMANS 9:23

And God did so to make known His glorious riches lavished upon vessels of mercy, which vessels He prepared beforehand for glory…

ROMANS 9:24

…even us, whom God also called, not from among Jews only, but also from among Gentiles.

ROMANS 9:25

As God says also in Hosea, “I will call those who were not My people, ‘My people,’ and her who was not beloved, ‘beloved.’”

ROMANS 9:26

“And it shall be that in the place where it was said to them, ‘you are not My people,’ There they shall be called sons of the living God.”

ROMANS 9:27

Isaiah cries out concerning Israel, “Though the number of the sons of Israel be like the sand of the sea, it is the remnant that will be saved…”

ROMANS 9:28

“…for the Lord will execute His word on the earth, thoroughly and quickly.”

ROMANS 9:29

And just as Isaiah foretold, “Unless the Lord of Sabaoth had left to us a posterity, we would have become like Sodom, and would have resembled Gomorrah.”

ROMANS 9:30

What shall we say then? That Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, attained righteousness, even the righteousness that is by faith…

ROMANS 9:31

…but Israel, pursuing a law of righteousness, did not arrive at that law.

ROMANS 9:32

Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as though it were by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone…

ROMANS 9:33

…just as it is written, “Behold, I lay in Zion a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense, and he who believes in Him will not be disappointed.”

What we see in Romans, Chapter 9 is that The Jews have lost their way.

Many Jewish teachers are teaching a double covenant…they’re teaching that a covenant with God through Abraham’s covenant is good enough…and that The Jews don’t need Christ…yet we are all lost apart from Jesus.

Continuing in ROMANS, CHAPTER 10…

ROMANS 10:1

Brethren, my heart’s desire and my prayer to God the Father for the Jews is for their salvation.

ROMANS 10:2

For I (Paul) testify about them that they have a zeal for God, but not in accordance with knowledge.

ROMANS 10:3

For not knowing about God’s righteousness and seeking to establish their own righteousness, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God.

ROMANS 10:4

For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.

ROMANS 10:5

For Moses writes that the man who practices the righteousness which is based on law shall live by that righteousness.

ROMANS 10:6

But the righteousness based on faith speaks as follows: “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’ (that is, to bring Christ down)…”

ROMANS 10:7

“…or ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’ (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).”

ROMANS 10:8

But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”—that is, the word of faith which we are preaching…

ROMANS 10:9

…that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God the Father raised Him from the dead, you will be saved…

ROMANS 10:10

…for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.

ROMANS 10:11

For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed.”

ROMANS 10:12

For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him…

ROMANS 10:13

…for “Whosoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

ROMANS 10:14

How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher?

ROMANS 10:15

How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news of good things!”

ROMANS 10:16

However, they did not all heed the good news; for Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?”

ROMANS 10:17

So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.

ROMANS 10:18

But I say, surely they have never heard, have they? Indeed they have…

“Their voice has gone out into all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world.”

ROMANS 10:19

But I say, surely Israel did not know, did they? First Moses says, “I will make you jealous by that which is not a nation, by a nation without understanding will I anger you.”

ROMANS 10:20

And Isaiah is very bold and says, “I was found by those who did not seek Me, I became manifest to those who did not ask for Me.”

ROMANS 10:21

But as for Israel He says, “All the day long I have stretched out My hands to a disobedient and obstinate people.”

What we see in Romans, Chapter 10 is that Paul is praying for the salvation his “kinsmen according to the flesh,” while at the same time he is clarifying the gospel message.  The Jews lived in one of two camps…they were either hostile to the Lord Jesus Christ or they were receptive to him.  Paul could empathize…before the Damascus Road experience, Paul was hostile…after the Damascus Road experience, Paul was receptive.

Let’s take a music break…and then we’ll move on to our overview of Romans, Chapter 11…

TODAY’S BIBLE LESSON

What is the Destiny of the Jews?

Welcome back!

Continuing in ROMANS, CHAPTER 11…

ROMANS 11:1

I say then, God has not rejected His people, has He? May it never be! For I too am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.

ROMANS 11:2

God has not rejected His people whom He foreknew. Or do you not know what the Scripture says in the passage about Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel?

ROMANS 11:3

“Lord, they have killed Your prophets, they have torn down Your altars, and I alone am left, and they are seeking my life.”

ROMANS 11:4

But what is the divine response to him? “I have kept for Myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.”

ROMANS 11:5

In the same way then, there has also come to be at the present time a remnant according to God’s gracious choice.

ROMANS 11:6

But if salvation is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace is no longer grace.

ROMANS 11:7

What then? What Israel is seeking, it has not obtained, but those who were chosen obtained it, and the rest were hardened…

The two groups…hostile and receptive…

ROMANS 11:8

…just as it is written, “God gave them a spirit of stupor…eyes to see not and ears to hear not…down to this very day.”

ROMANS 11:9

And David says, “Let their table become a snare and a trap, and a stumbling block and a retribution to them.

ROMANS 11:10

“Let their eyes be darkened to see not, and bend their backs forever.”

ROMANS 11:11

I say then, they did not stumble so as to fall, did they? May it never be! But by their transgression salvation has come to the Gentiles, to make them jealous.

ROMANS 11:12

Now if their transgression is riches for the world and their failure is riches for the Gentiles, how much more will their fulfillment be!

ROMANS 11:13

But I am speaking to you who are Gentiles. Inasmuch then as I am an apostle of Gentiles, I magnify my ministry…

ROMANS 11:14

…if somehow I might move to jealousy my fellow countrymen and save some of them.

ROMANS 11:15

For if their rejection is the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?

ROMANS 11:16

If the first piece of dough is holy, the lump is also; and if the root is holy, the branches are too.

ROMANS 11:17

But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive, were grafted in among them and became partaker with them of the rich root of the olive tree…

ROMANS 11:18

…do not be arrogant toward the branches; but if you are arrogant, remember that it is not you who supports the root, but the root supports you.

ROMANS 11:19

You will say then, “Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in.”

ROMANS 11:20

Quite right, they were broken off for their unbelief, but you stand by your faith. Do not be conceited, but fear…

ROMANS 11:21

…for if God did not spare the natural branches, He will not spare you, either.

ROMANS 11:22

Behold then the kindness and severity of God; to those who fell, severity, but to you, God’s kindness, if you continue in His kindness; otherwise you also will be cut off.

ROMANS 11:23

And they also, if they do not continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again.

ROMANS 11:24

For if you were cut off from what is by nature a wild olive tree, and were grafted contrary to nature into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these who are the natural branches be grafted into their own olive tree?

ROMANS 11:25

For I do not want you, brethren, to be uninformed of this mystery—so that you will not be wise in your own estimation—that a partial hardening has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in…

ROMANS 11:26

…and so all Israel will be saved; just as it is written, “The Deliverer will come from Zion, He will remove ungodliness from Jacob.”

ROMANS 11:27

“This is My covenant with them, when I take away their sins.”

ROMANS 11:28

From the standpoint of the gospel they are enemies for your sake, but from the standpoint of God’s choice they are beloved for the sake of the fathers…

ROMANS 11:29

…for the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.

ROMANS 11:30

For just as you once were disobedient to God, but now have been shown mercy because of their disobedience…

ROMANS 11:31

…so these also now have been disobedient, that because of the mercy shown to you they also may now be shown mercy.

ROMANS 11:32

For God has shut up all in disobedience so that He may show mercy to all.

ROMANS 11:33

Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways!

ROMANS 11:34

For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who became His counselor?

ROMANS 11:35

Or who has first given to Him that it might be paid back to him again?

ROMANS 11:36

For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen.

What we see in Romans, Chapter 11 is Paul reminding himself and his audience that there is always hope.  Here we begin the verse-by verse study of the ninety verses of Romans, Chapter 9 to Romans, Chapter 11.  It should be an interesting ride as we witness the Lord’s love for the Jewish race.

GOD WANTS YOU!

The Most Important Decision of Your Life

MATTHEW 19:25b

(The disciples asked the Lord) “Then who can be saved?”

ROMANS 3:10

…as it is written, “There is no creature who is righteous, not even one…”

ROMANS 5:8

But God the Father demonstrates His own unconditional love toward all mankind, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died instead of us.

EPHESIANS 2:8-9

For by grace you have been saved through faith (in the Lord Jesus Christ alone); and that (grace and faith and salvation is) not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;//it is not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.

TITUS 3:5

The Lord Jesus Christ saved us, not on the basis of deeds we have done in self-righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and by the renewing from the Holy Spirit…
