Pastor-Teacher

Welcome to Barah Ministries…a Christian Church…my name is Pastor Rory Clark.  Turn in your bible to Isaiah, Chapter 53, Verse 1…welcome to our annual celebration of the second most important day in divine history…the Crucifixion of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Don’t ever be surprised when you are rejected.  It happened to the best of us…

ISA 53:1

Who has believed our message? And to whom has the (righteous right) arm of the Lord been revealed?

ISA 53:2

For He (the Servant…the Lord Jesus Christ) grew up before Him (God the Father) like a tender shoot, and like a root out of parched ground; He has no stately form or majesty (nothing outwardly remarkable) that we should look upon Him (with esteem), nor (does He have an) appearance that we should be attracted to Him.

ISA 53:3

He (the Lord Jesus Christ) was despised and forsaken of men, (He was) a man of sorrows and (He was) acquainted with grief (suffering); and like one from whom men hide their face (like the elephant man, for example) He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.

ISA 53:4

Surely our griefs (the suffering we deserved) He Himself bore (in His own body), and our sorrows (consequences) He carried; yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken (we [Israel] thought He got what He deserved for His “blasphemy” … we thought He was), smitten of God, and afflicted.

ISA 53:5

But He (the Lord Jesus Christ) was pierced through for our transgressions (rebellion), He was crushed (punished) for our iniquities (personal sins); the chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, and by His scourging we are healed (we have the chance to be redeemed).

ISA 53:6

All of us like sheep have gone astray (there is none righteous), each of us has turned to his own way (not even one righteous); but the Lord (God the Father) has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him (the Lord Jesus Christ).

ISA 53:7

He (the Lord Jesus Christ) was oppressed and He was afflicted, yet He did not open His mouth (to defend Himself); like a lamb that is led to slaughter, and like a sheep that is silent before its shearers (even to his own destruction), so He did not open His mouth (He did not stop it).

This is what we celebrate today…the Lord Jesus Christ’s voluntary sacrifice of Himself on our behalf.  An abridged version of Revelation, Chapter 1, Verses 4 and 5 says…

REV 1:4-5

Grace to you and peace, from Him who is, and (from Him) who was, and (from Him) who is to come…from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead (the first to be resurrected from the dead), and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To Him who loves us (unconditionally) and (who) released us from our sins by His blood —

TODAY’S STUDY

The Crucifixion Celebration

The Lord Jesus Christ Bore Our Sins in His Own Body on the Cross

The Problem?

A breach in relationship in angelic history…turn to Ezekiel, Chapter 28, Verse 12…

EZE 28:12

“Son of man, take up a lamentation over the (one motivating the) king of Tyre and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord God (the Son), “You (Satan) had the seal of perfection, full of wisdom (a genius) and perfect in beauty (gorgeous).”’

EZE 28:13

“You (Satan) were in Eden, the garden of God (in Paradise in heaven); every precious stone was your covering: the ruby, the topaz and the diamond; the beryl, the onyx and the jasper; the lapis lazuli, the turquoise and the emerald; and the gold, the workmanship of your settings and sockets, was in you. On the day that you were created they were prepared.”

EZE 28:14

“You were the anointed (hand picked) cherub (officer angel) who covers (the bodyguard), and I (God the Son) placed you there. You were on the holy mountain of God (the third heaven); you walked in the midst of the stones of fire (the throne room of heaven).”

EZE 28:15

“You were blameless (without sin) in your ways from the day you were created until unrighteousness (the rejection of God, His unconditional love, and His laws) was found in you.”

EZE 28:16

“By the abundance of your trade (to go about from one to another trafficking slander against God) you were internally filled with violence, and you sinned; therefore I have cast you as profane from the mountain of God. And I have destroyed you (removed you), O covering cherub (bodyguard), from the midst of the stones of fire (the throne room of God…but still with access to heaven).”

EZE 28:17

“Your heart was lifted up (in arrogance…the sin of pride…a higher opinion of self than is merited) because of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom by reason of your splendor. I cast you to the ground (expelled you from heaven); I put you before kings, that they may see you.”

EZE 28:18

“By the multitude of your iniquities, in the unrighteousness of your trade (to go about from one to another trafficking slander against God) you profaned your sanctuaries. Therefore I have brought fire from the midst of you; it (fire) has consumed you, and I have turned you to ashes (defeated you) on the earth in the eyes of all who see you.”

EZE 28:19

“All who know you among the peoples are appalled at you (and your

horrible end); you have become terrified and you will cease to be

forever.”’”

The Problem?

A breach in relationship in human history…turn to Genesis, Chapter 2, Verse 16…

GEN 2:16

The Lord God (the Son) commanded the man, saying, “From any tree of the garden you may eat freely…”

GEN 2:17

“…but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it (dying spiritually) you will surely die (physically).”

All the angels and all mankind had the problem…“the fall of creatures”…Romans Chapter 3…at Verse 10…

ROM 3:10

…as it is written, “THERE IS NONE (not one creature who is) RIGHTEOUS, NOT EVEN ONE…”

…at Verse 23…why is there no creature righteous?

ROM 3:23

…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…

Creatures created the problem, yet it was not a problem that creatures could solve…the problem of ungodliness and unrighteousness… problems that made us all sinners…the breach in the relationship with God caused by our disobedience…but God came to our rescue…turn to Ephesians, Chapter 2, Verse 4.The Solution?

EPH 2:4-5a

But God (the Father), being rich in mercy, because of His great (unconditional) love with which He loved us even when we were dead in our transgressions (as ungodly, unrighteous sinners)…

God the Father solved the problem of our spiritual death with the ONLY perfect solution.  He sent God the Son to pay for our transgressions…John, Chapter 1, Verse 14…

JOH 1:14

And the Word (the Lord…God the Son) became flesh (true humanity…Jesus Christ), and dwelt (tabernacled) among us, and we saw (beheld) His glory, glory as of the only begotten (uniquely born One, sent) from the (source of God the) Father, full of grace and truth.

He came with our salvation in mind…John, Chapter 3, Verses 16 and 17…

JOH 3:16

“For God (the Father) so loved the world (all mankind), that He gave His only begotten (uniquely born) Son (the Lord Jesus Christ), that who(so)ever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”

JOH 3:17

“For God (the Father) did not send the Son (the Lord Jesus Christ) into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.”

And save us the Lord did…First Peter, Chapter 2, Verse 24…

1PE 2:24

…He Himself (the Lord Jesus Christ) bore our sins in His (own) body (true humanity) on the Cross, so that we (whosoever would believe) might die to (the sovereignty of the) sin (nature) and live (the Zoe life)to (the blessing of the free gift of absolute) righteousness; for (it is) by His wounds (the undeserved blows He suffered on your behalf that) you were healed (you were drawn into relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and attached in union with Him forever).

The Lord describes the torture of the Cross as He hung from it…in Psalm 22, Verses 14 to 18…crucifixion…the worst, most torturous death in human history…

PSA 22:14-15

I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint; My heart is

like wax; it is melted within me. My strength is dried up like a potsherd,

and my tongue cleaves to my jaws; and You lay me in the dust of death.

PSA 22:16-18

For dogs have surrounded me; a band of evildoers has encompassed me; they pierced my hands and my feet. I can count all my bones. They look, they stare at me; They divide my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots.

<JESUS ON THE CROSS SLIDE>

This Old Testament prediction came true at the Cross.  God the Father would only accept one payment for the breach of relationship by creatures, and God the Father chose the ONLY perfect payment…the Father would only accept the blood of His Son…First John, Chapter 2, Verses 1 and 2…

1JO 2:1

My little children (believers in Christ), I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if (1) anyone sins (and we all do), we have an Advocate with (God) the Father, Jesus Christ the (only) righteous (One)…

1JO 2:2

…and He Himself (the Lord Jesus Christ) is the propitiation for our sins (the ONLY perfectly satisfactory payment in the eyes of God the Father); and not (the propitiation) for our sins only (as believers), but also for those of the whole world (unbelievers as well).

When I Think About Home

Welcome back…turn to John, Chapter 18…there is nothing like reading the bible when we want to know what really happened…

<READ JOHN, Chapters 18 and 19>

For three hours, in perfect joy on the Cross, the Lord Jesus Christ paid for the sins of all mankind, and He eliminated the sin problem once, for all time… Matthew, Chapter 27, Verses 45 and 46…

MAT 27:45-46

Now from the sixth hour (noon…a supernatural) darkness fell upon all the land until the ninth hour (3PM). About the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “ELI, ELI, LAMA SABACHTHANI?” that is, “MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?”

God the Father watched as His Son shed His blood for us as the propitiation for the sins of all creatures…whosoever.

No one killed the Lord Jesus Christ.  He laid down His life voluntarily, and He had the power to take up His own life again.  Death cannot contain God.  John, Chapter 10, Verses 17 and 18 say…

JOH 10:17

“For this reason (the prophecy of JOH 10:16, God) the Father loves Me, because I lay down My life so that I may take it (up) again (at the resurrection).

JOH 10:18

No one (creature…neither angel nor mankind) has taken it (My life) away from Me, but I lay it down on My own initiative. I have authority to lay it down (by my own will), and I have authority to take it up again. This commandment (is the directive) I received from My (God the) Father (in eternity past).”

The Lord was in the ground for three full days after His crucifixion.  Matthew, Chapter 12, Verse 40…

MAT 12:40

…for just as JONAH WAS THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS IN THE BELLY OF THE SEA MONSTER, so will the Son of Man be three (full) days and three (full) nights in the heart of the earth (the grave).

So much for the counterfeit…Good Friday.

Mark, Chapter 9, Verse 31…

MAR 9:31

For He (the Lord Jesus Christ) was teaching His disciples and telling them, “The Son of Man is to be delivered into the hands of (godless) men (unbelievers), and they will kill Him; and when He has been killed, He will rise three days later.”

John, Chapter 2, Verses 18 to 22…

JOH 2:18

The Jews then said to Him (the Lord Jesus Christ), “What sign do You show us as your authority for doing these things (overturning the tables in the temple)?”

JOH 2:19

Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”

JOH 2:20

The Jews then said, “It took forty-six years to build this temple)of Solomon), and will You raise it up in three days?”

JOH 2:21

But He (the Lord Jesus Christ) was speaking of the temple of His body.

JOH 2:22

So when He (the Lord Jesus Christ) was raised from the dead, His disciples remembered that He said this; and they believed the Scripture and the word which Jesus had spoken.

Salvation is as close as your thoughts…

JOH 14:6

Jesus said to him, “I am the way (to salvation), and (I am) the truth (of the Written Word…the bible), and (I am) the (resurrection) life; no one comes to (God) the Father (in heaven) but through (believing in) Me.

The Promises of the Lord Jesus Christ

PRO 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord (Jesus Christ) with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him (Jesus), And He will make your paths straight.

DEU 31:8

The Lord is the one who goes ahead of you; He will be with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.

ISA 30:18

Therefore the Lord longs to be gracious to you, And therefore He waits on high to have compassion on you. For the Lord is a God of justice; How blessed are all those who long for Him.
