Merry Christmas!

Pastor-Teacher
Good Morning!
Welcome to the 2025 Christmas Lesson for Barah Ministries! My name is Pastor Rory Clark. Today’s Christmas lesson is entitled…
THE CHRISTMAS LESSON
The Christmas Message is the Gospel Message
LESSON INTRODUCTION
If you knew that something was being given away, free of charge, that would benefit those you love, would you tell them about it? For example, your parents love ribeye steaks! You heard and verified that a new company was marketing steaks by giving anyone two free ribeye steaks per week for a year. Would you tell your parents about it? Yes! You would!
If you knew that your parents or others you love could go to heaven free of charge when they close their eyes in this life, would you tell them about it? For some reason, that’s a different matter for many of us! We’re willing to tell those we love about steaks, but not about the free gift of eternal life. How sad!
Today, we celebrate the most important day in human history. I used to think Resurrection Day was the most important day in human history, the day the Lord Jesus Christ rose from the dead. Certainly, that day is up there, but it’s not possible without the day we celebrate today…the day an apostle described in John, Chapter 1, Verse 14…
JOHN 1:14
And the Word (the Lord…God the Son) became flesh (as Jesus…the Christ…the Messiah)…and He lived among us…and we apostles saw His glory with our own eyes…the glory of the only begotten One who came from the source of God the Father…the One who is full of grace and full of truth.
Today we celebrate Christmas…the birth day of Christ, our dear Savior. Here’s Josh Groban to sing about it…

OPENING PRAYER
Let us pray...
Thank you, Father, for your indescribable…unfathomable…magnificent… precious…gracious…and free gift…the gift of Your Son…God the Son…our Lord…who came to earth in human form as Jesus…the Christ…the world’s Messiah! Thank you for considering us worthy to receive Him! In gratitude we lift our hearts to You every day, and on this day especially, Father, as we let in feelings that overwhelm our souls. As we celebrate Jesus’ birth…our souls rejoice as we realize the significance of what You did to save us when we were your enemies. Best of all we don’t have to work for Your gift. It is free of charge.
Illuminate in our souls the Scriptures we hear today…help us see with spiritual eyes Your perfect plan for Your imperfect creatures…help us experience the intimacy of Your unconditional love for us…help us know Your peace…
…we ask this through the power of God the Holy Spirit...in Christ’s name...Amen.
THE CHRISTMAS LESSON
The Christmas Message is the Gospel Message
LESSON PART ONE
Merry Christmas!
We hear this greeting over and over, every year, at this time of the year. But what does this greeting really mean? What makes Christmas merry?
From God’s point of view, as He looks down from heaven, Christmas is merry if you hear and respond positively to His gospel message.
What is the gospel message? It’s a communication directly from God. It’s an offer to all of us. As the Bible describes, it’s an offer to WHOSOEVER. John, Chapter 3, Verse 16…
JOHN 3:16
“God the Father loved the world unconditionally…and He loved the world so much…that he gave his only Son…(The Lord…God the Son)…that WHOSOEVER believes in Him will never perish…instead, he will have eternal life (the resurrection life).”
Each of us has a singular and most important decision in our lifetime on earth. It’s the decision to accept or reject the gospel message offer of the Sovereign God of the Universe…the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. What’s your decision?
Christmas is not a time for giving as many think, at least not for us human beings. It’s a time for receiving. John, Chapter 1, Verse 12 says…
JOHN 1:12
…whosoever receives Him, to them the Lord Jesus Christ gives the right to become children of God the Father, even to those who believe in Christ’s name…
Have you received the gift? Have those you love received the gift? Would you offer the gift to those you love, to those you hate, and to those who hate you? That’s what God the Father did. Romans, Chapter 5, Verse 8…
ROMANS 5:8a
But God the Father DEMONSTRATES His own unconditional love toward all mankind, in that while we were yet sinners (while we were unrighteous, ungodly unbelievers who were rejecting a relationship with Jesus…
ROMANS 5:8b
…while we were God the Father’s enemies…He sent the) Christ (the Messiah…as
a gift to the whole human race…to WHOSOEVER…the Christ…who) died (as a
sin substitute) for us.
The free gift. Eternal life.
Every year, all over the world, there is a cessation of activity that zooms our attention to the most significant event in human history. All eyes see the words…all eyes hear the words…Merry Christmas. Our attention turns to Jesus…the CHRIST…the MASsiah.
CHRISTMAS
Jesus CHRISTis theMASsiah
For those who don’t have a relationship with Him, in the silence of our thoughts we wonder, “Who is this Christ? What is this holiday about?”
What this holiday is not about is the stress of running around, overspending, and giving meaningless gifts to people we don’t even like.
What this holiday IS about is receiving what God the Father choose to do for each one of us. The Lord Jesus Christ’s coming for us was not a secret according to Isaiah, Chapter 7, Verse 14…
ISAIAH 7:14
Therefore, the Lord Himself will give all of you a sign…behold…a virgin will be with child and bear a Son…and she will call His name Emmanuel (which means God with us).
Our God left heaven and came to earth to free us from a death sentence. Let’s hear about it.
MUSIC
Let’s Sing the Lord’s Praises
O COME…O COME…EMMANUEL
Enja
Why was it necessary for our God to leave the comforts of heaven? The problem was Adam’s sin. Genesis, Chapter 3, Verses 6 and 7…
THE PROBLEM
Adam’s Sin
GENESIS3:6
When the woman (Isha) saw that the tree was good for food…that it was a delight to the eyes…that the tree was desirable to make one wise (Satan’s lie to her)…she took from its fruit and ate…and she gave also to her husband Adam who was with her…and he ate.
THE PROBLEM
Adam’s Sin
GENESIS3:7
Then the eyes of both of them (Adam and Isha) were opened, and they knew that they were naked, and they sewed fig leaves together and made for themselves loin coverings.
Adam was the first man on earth, and God made him the federal head of the human race. As the federal head, Adam was a representative figure selected by God to act on behalf of an entire group…all human beings…with Adam’s actions binding the whole group. Romans, Chapter 5, Verse 12 says…
ROMANS 5:12
…through one man…Adam…sin entered into the world…and spiritual death entered the world through Adam’s sin…so spiritual death spread to all men…because all men were considered by God to have sinned when Adam sinned.
Adam’s sin created a barrier between God and man. Sin demands a penalty from God.First Corinthians, Chapter 15, Verse 22…
THE BARRIER
Sin created a barrier between God and His creatures
FIRST CORINTHIANS 15:22a
For all in union with Adam at physical birth (and that is every human being who comes to earth) are set to die the second death in the Lake of Fire…
Because of Adam’s sin, all humans were born physically alive and spiritually dead with a sinful nature. Romans, Chapter 6, Verse 23…
THE SINFUL NATURE
It is passes from the father to children at conception
ROMANS 6:23
For the payment due for those whohave Adam’s sin is spiritual death…
Seeing His creatures on the wrong side of a barrier, separated from relationship, God knew His creatures did not have the power to fix the sin problem on their own. What a dilemma! God’s creatures were now his enemies.
What could be done about the sin problem? Who had the power to fix the problem?God the Father had the power to fix the sin problem with a sacrifice. So He did. He sacrificed the life of His Son…God the Son. John, Chapter 1, Verse 14…
THE DECISION
God the Father decides to fix the sin problem for His enemies
JOHN 1:14a
And the Word (in Greek the term ho logos…a reference to the Lord…God the Son) became flesh (entering a new mode of existence…true humanity…as Jesus…the Christ…the Messiah)…
THE DECISION
God the Father decides to fix the sin problem for His enemies
JOHN 1:14b
…and Jesus lived in a physical body among us…and we (the apostles and the writer of this letter…John) saw His glory with our own eyes…the glory of the uniquely born Onewho came from the source of God the Father…the One who is full of grace and full of truth.
But God the Father is not a bully. He doesn’t coerce anyone. He doesn’t force anyone. He gifted everyone of His creatures with free will, and He allows each of us to make his own decision.
You have a decision to make about having a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. He took care of your sin problem. Philippians, Chapter 2, Verses 5 to 11…
THE AGREEMENT
God the Son volunteers to execute God the Father’s plan to fix the sin problem
PHILIPPIANS 2:5
Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus…
THE AGREEMENT
God the Son volunteers to execute God the Father’s plan to fix the sin problem
PHILIPPIANS 2:6
…who, although had the exact same essence as God the Father, did not regard equality with God the Father as a thing to be seized and held…
THE AGREEMENT
God the Son volunteers to execute God the Father’s plan to fix the sin problem
PHILIPPIANS 2:7
…instead, Jesus emptied Himself…taking on the form of a bond-slave…by being made in the likeness of men.
THE AGREEMENT
God the Son volunteers to execute God the Father’s plan to fix the sin problem
PHILIPPIANS 2:8
And being found in appearance as a man, He humiliated Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death on a Cross.
THE AGREEMENT
God the Son volunteers to execute God the Father’s plan to fix the sin problem
PHILIPPIANS 2:9
For this reason, God the Father highly exalted Jesus, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name…
THE AGREEMENT
God the Son volunteers to execute God the Father’s plan to fix the sin problem
PHILIPPIANS 2:10
…so that at the name of Jesus, every knee of those who are in heaven and
on earth and under the earthwill bow…
THE AGREEMENT
God the Son volunteers to execute God the Father’s plan to fix the sin problem
PHILIPPIANS 2:11
…and every tongue will confess…that Jesus Christ is the Lord (He is God…He is Deity)…to the glory of God the Father.
This is what we celebrate today. We celebrate a God who had mercy on His enemies and decided to solve their sin problem.
Now you may say, “Why did Adam get me in this predicament? This is NOT my fault?” You’d be right. The sin problem is not your fault, but it is your circumstance. To compound the problem, you repeat the pattern of Adam by sinning every day. When youcommitted your first sin, then sinbecame your problem as well.
So when we celebrate Christmas, we remind ourselves of an intricate plan that God orchestrated on our behalf, even though He had no obligation to do so.
When God created angels, He informed them of the rules, He gave them free will, and He watched. He did the same thing for humans.
And when angels and humans did the exact same thing…(we both broke the rules by sinning)…God’s plan saved us from our sins. John, Chapter 3, Verse 17…
JOHN 3:17
“For God the Father did not send God the Son into the world to judge the world… the Father sent the Son into the world so that the world might be saved through Him.”
And so we rest.

Before you take the break, I’d like you to stay put and listen to the first song. It’s a tribute to my best friend, Pastor John Farley, who went home to spend His first Christmas with the Lord just three short months ago. Then I’ll give you the signal to start your break. The song is called FRIENDS IN HIGH PLACES.

LESSON PART TWO
After volunteering to become the Savior of the world, the Lord predicted His coming in Old Testament Scripture.Isaiah, Chapter 9, Verses 6 and 7…
THE PROPHECY PREDICTING THE SIN SOLUTION
The Old Testament Scriptures
ISAIAH 9:6
For a child will be born to us…a son will be given to us…and the government will rest on His shoulders…and His name will be called Wonderful Counselor…Mighty God…Eternal Father…Prince of Peace.
THE PROPHECY PREDICTING THE SOLUTION
The Old Testament Scriptures
ISAIAH 9:7
And there will be no end to the increase of His government and no end to His
peaceon the throne of David and over is kingdom…to establish it and to uphold it…with justice and righteousness from then on, and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will accomplish this.
The Lord came to earth by means of a virgin birth so He could exist in human form without a sin nature. The Lord wants nothing to do with sin. An angel visits Mary to encourage her to participate in the greatest event of all time. Luke, Chapter 1, Verses 26 to 38 using the Wuest Translation…
THE VIRGIN PREGNANCY
The angel seeks Mary’s consent
LUKE 1:26 (Wuest Translation)
Now, in the sixth month of the pregnancy of Mary’s relative Elizabeth, the angel Gabriel was sent on a mission from God the Father to a city of Galilee named Nazareth…
THE VIRGIN PREGNANCY
The angel seeks Mary’s consent
LUKE 1:27 (Wuest Translation)
…to a virgin promised in marriage to a man named Joseph, of the house of David. And the name of the virgin was Mary.
Couples who were engaged at this time…who were “promised”…were already married.
THE VIRGIN PREGNANCY
The angel seeks Mary’s consent
LUKE 1:28 (Wuest Translation)
And having come to her, Gabriel said, “Keep on rejoicing Mary, because you have been encompassed with favor, a grace gift from God. The Lord is with you.”
THE VIRGIN PREGNANCY
The angel seeks Mary’s consent
LUKE 1:29 (Wuest Translation)
But Mary was greatly agitated by reason of the words said by Gabriel, and began
reasoning what sort of an exotic greeting this might be.
THE VIRGIN PREGNANCY
The angel seeks Mary’s consent
LUKE 1:30 (Wuest Translation)
And the angel said to her, “Stop fearing, Mary, for you have a grace gift of favor in the presence of God.”
THE VIRGIN PREGNANCY
The angel seeks Mary’s consent
LUKE 1:31 (Wuest Translation)
“And behold, you shall conceive in your womb and you shall give birth to a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus.”
Next, we see five things the Lord was given by His Father in return for the sacrifice of His life for us…
THE VIRGIN PREGNANCY
The angel seeks Mary’s consent
LUKE 1:32 (Wuest Translation)
(1) “This One…Jesus…shall be great…(2) andHe shall be called the Son of the Most High…(3) and God the Fathershall give to Jesusthe throne of Davidduring Jesus’ Millennial reign…”
THE VIRGIN PREGNANCY
The angel seeks Mary’s consent
LUKE 1:33 (Wuest Translation)
“…and (4) Jesus shall reign as King over the house of Jacob (Israel) forever…
(5) and of His kingdom there shall not be an end.”
THE VIRGIN PREGNANCY
The angel seeks Mary’s consent
LUKE 1:34 (Wuest Translation)
But Mary said to the angel, “How shall this be possible, since I have not had sexual intercourse with a man?”
THE VIRGIN PREGNANCY
The angel seeks Mary’s consent
LUKE 1:35 (Wuest Translation)
And the angel said to Mary, “The Holy Spirit shall come upon you, and the power of the Most High shall overshadow you…and the Holy One which is being conceived in your womb shall be called the Son of God.”
THE VIRGIN PREGNANCY
The angel seeks Mary’s consent
LUKE 1:36 (Wuest Translation)
“And behold, Elizabeth, your relative (the barren one), also conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month of pregnancy for her who is called sterile…”
THE VIRGIN PREGNANCY
The angel seeks Mary’s consent
LUKE 1:37 (Wuest Translation)
“…for in the presence of God not a thing shall be impossible.”
THE VIRGIN PREGNANCY
The angel seeks Mary’s consent
LUKE 1:38
And Mary said, “Behold, the bondslave of the Lord…may it be done to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.
Mary had to be wondering what it would be reasonable to wonder…WHAT CHILD IS THIS? Andrea Bocelli sings…

Luke, Chapter 2, Verses 6 and 7…
THE VIRGIN BIRTH
God with Us

And Joseph and Mary went to Galilee for a census inthe village of Nazareth…inthe region of Judea, to the city of David called Bethlehem, and while they were there, the days were completed for her to give birth.
THE VIRGIN BIRTH
God with Us
LUKE 2:7
And she gave birth to her firstborn son…and she wrapped Him in cloths…and laid Him in a manger (a feeding trough for livestock)…because there was no room for them in the inn.
And the Lord Jesus…the Christ…grew…and He lived a sinless life…Hebrews, Chapter 2, Verse 9…
HE LIVED A SINLESS LIFE
So as to be Qualified to Save Us from Sin
HEBREWS 2:9
But we do see the One who was made for a little while lower than the angels…
namely, Jesus…who because of the suffering of death was crowned with glory and honor…so that by the grace of God the Father, Jesus might taste death for the benefit of everyone (whosoever).
In April of next year, once again we will celebrate this Child who tasted death for all of us. We’ll celebrate His death by crucifixion and His resurrection from the dead. We pay close attention to the words He spoke to God and Fatherfrom the manger…Hebrews, Chapter 10, Verses 5 to 7…
INSIGHT FROM THE MANAGER
The Lord Speaks to His Father
HEBREWS 10:5
Therefore, when the Lord…God the Son…comes into the world, He says, “Sacrificeand offering You have not desired my God and Father…but a body You have prepared for Me (I AM true humanity)…”
